Strategic Analysis
Taking both the institution-based and the resource-based views of international business, analyze both the external and internal environment of the company. This part of the analysis should include your evaluation of the institutional (both formal and informal) environment of the firm (political, economic, legal, technological, social, cultural, etc.), and the resource-base of the firm (capabilities and resources). After these analyses, a summary of SWOT table can help you develop several potential alternatives you would like to propose. Keep in mind your alternatives should be kept rather at the strategic level. They should be aimed to solve the most critical issues of the firm in this current situation. They should also have the potential not only to solve the current issues, but also to keep the company competitive in the long run. Please be realistic. Identify the pros and cons of each alternative. Do not repeat case facts, but rely on critical evidence (qualitative and quantitative) to support your viewpoints. It is important to apply theories and concepts you have learned from this course in this section. Make sure you at least cite, borrow several theoretical insights/perspectives when analyzing your case.
Recommendation. Once you identify the “best” alternative, justify your choice. Be sure to discuss the impact of this alternative to the company (to the company, to the competitors, and/or even, on the industry). Ask yourself why this alternative is the best? Discuss the implementation of your alternative as well (the immediate tasks the company needs to take in order to implement your recommended strategy successfully).
