Select one of your obstacles and share your personal example/experience. What emphasis strategies could have been employed to address any of the obstacles you identified?

Answer/Response:

According to Saylor Academy (2012), the true definition of language is a series of symbols, letters or gestures to communicate meaning. When I think about the word language, my mind starts to wonder. The reason I say this is because, language is so intriguing considering everyone’s language is different, regardless if we’re from the same town, state, country, or continent. Honestly, language is how one communicates, perceives and comprehends with the world. With this being said, one person receives the message different than what another person does, this is why there are communication obstacles.

While using language it’s vital to be aware of who the audience is. For example, since I’ve been in the military, I’ve been deployed to multiple locations where it’s very important to use the right language. While being in another country it’s important to educate oneself to be aware of their beliefs, religions, customs, and courtesies. To learn about the country, I’d venture off with some friends to indulge in their festivities, their religion, and their food. By far the biggest obstacle I’ve experienced with communication, yet the most rewarding. A strategy is important when I deploy because I have to be alert considering I’m a guest within their country. The only way to stay under the radar is to educate myself on their country and the mission that currently is over there with the US. I have to attend many training classes to be mentally and physically prepared.
