A biometric device is according to Schneider (2015), is one that uses an element of a person’s biological makeup to perform the identification (Schneider, 2015, p.448). This type of device could be a hand scanner, retinal scanner, signature verification, or even some devices that can verify an individual by reading their palm. The employer sells is virtual company and there are many risks such as security breaches and even corporate espionage that can occur with counter measures such as biometric devices.
For this company, I would suggest a couple of different options. For the individual associate or tech computers, I would install both a card reader as well as a thumb print reader which allows the company to have visual and technical over sight with their employees and their use of the operating systems. I would also suggest that for rooms and spaces that have sensitive materials such as documents and the servers, the company invest in palm readers which allows only pertinent personnel into the areas. This cuts down on traffic and the possibility of security breaches. These suggestion or counter measures should keep the company safer from known and unknown risks.
