Assume that there is 10 mm gap (fracture) at mid diaphysis on adults tibia.
1. You need to design an Neutralization Bi-lateral external fixation system for this fracture.
This means under the loading, fracture space should be maintained (see #2)
2. Constraint is that micromotion at the fracture site cannot exceed 100 micron under the loading
3. Assume body weight is your wieght
4. You need to simply the geometry of the tibia and fracture reasonably , and select bone materials properties reasonably.
5. Stress at bone and EF system cannot exceed 25% of yield strength of the materials
6. Use cylinder shape pin instead of bone screw thread for the simplification
7. Simplify the connection between pin (screw) and frame.
8. Assume reasonably for any necessary variables.
To meet the requirement, create a concept design of EF system, with proper engineering calculations.
You MUST provide all works (stress/strain calculations) for full credits. Without it, you will not have credits.
You do NOT need to design full system with all details. You need to design a concept design with proper calculations for few important design variables.
Your design can be proper hand drawing.
