1. What are the writer’s thesis and purpose? Do they both match the assigned writing task?
The writer’s thesis is that progressive media offers better information because it uses
justifiable facts that are simply made to inform audiences. Therefore, a democratic society is
promoted through lack of propaganda. The purpose of the essay is to inform the readers of
the benefits of consuming progressive media. This matches the writing task.
2. Do the topic sentences coherently develop the essay thesis? Is the order of body paragraphs effective?
It would be helpful if there was more of a transition from topic sentence into the body paragraph. It is a
bit difficult to follow at some points. Also, the second topic sentence does not really relate directly to
the thesis, so this could easily be changed by altering the thesis slightly to match all of the topic
sentences
3. Does the writer analyze the progressive media in the light of their contributions to democracy?
The writer could check to make sure that their paragraphs always circle back to how progressive
media promotes democracy. I think the message is a bit lost in all of the information.
4. Does the writer offer relevant, sufficient evidence from progressive sources to support the argument?
Yes, the writer has provided lots of evidence from the strike to outside sources to support her statement.
However, there could be a bit more analysis.
5. Does the conclusion establish the value of this analysis to readers interested in a fairer society?
Yes. She makes the very good point that progressive media reflects fairness as it gives everyone a
voice that is significant and can make change. She also has a very strong ending of instructions for
