What goes in the annotations? The annotations for each source should appear in paragraph form. Annotations should summarize the main points and also identify: a) what qualifications the authors have for writing about this topic, and/or what the authors’ primary purpose is.b) why you believe the source is a high quality, trustworthy/credible source – beyond just stating it’s from a type of web domain such as “.gov” or from a reputable publication such as The New York Times, because we will make no assumptions in this class.c) why and how the source is useful in helping you answer your research question – specifically. The answer should not be the same for all the sources (each one should contribute something unique). Each annotation should be approximately 5-7 sentences. Write a concise annotation that summarizes the central theme and purpose of the book or article. In addition to 2-3 sentences of summary, include 1-2 sentences that evaluate the authority or background of the author, consider the intended audience for whom it was written, and/or how you can be certain you have found a credible source. (This can be shown in a variety of ways: for instance, by contextualizing the author’s work, by giving his/her background, or by demonstrating the high level of scholarship in the piece through specific examples.) In another 1-2 sentences explain how this work specifically contributes to your topic. Don’t generalize – use specifics. What makes this particular article a good resource for you?
