Social Work Self-Assessment
An important component of any introductory level course is the opportunity for the students to
determine their current levels of interest and capacity for the field. This assignment requires students to identify the core values of social work and consider their areas of compatibility and tension with these values using specific examples of beliefs, practices, and experiences from their own lives as evidence.
In practice classes students will learn and evaluate specific micro, mezzo, and macro level professional skills. That said, all students come into the profession with various practical and interpersonal skills which can be put to use as a practitioner. In the Social Work Self-Assessment students will demonstrate self-reflection considering which general skills they already possess and which skills they might still require in order to practice social work at a competent level.
Finally, students will consider the ethical integration of faith and practice including the GSSW Model (three- legged stool), their own experience with faith/spirituality/worldview, and areas of growth and change related to the ethical integration of faith and practice in their field settings and beyond.
