Go to Opposing Viewpoints in Context (Links to an external site.) through the databases in Hatch Library and search for an article, video, or podcast that gives a viewpoint on a topic of your choice (see the video below for help on using the Opposing Viewpoints database). After choosing an article/video/podcast, choose three quotes from the article/video/podcast that you either found interesting, confusing, that you agreed or disagreed with, etc. Copy and paste each quote(correctly cited) into your response. Under each quote, answer the following questions to critically interact with that quote:
- What is being said? Summarize the quote in your own words.
- What is being implied? How does it connect to the author’s larger argument? Are there hidden meanings in the quote? Could it be interpreted differently than the author intended? How?
- What is your response? What do you think of the author’s idea? How does it inform or relate to your own perspective on the issue?
