I’m working on a supply chain project and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
Dear Class,
Please note that your group’s project data and instructions have been posted. The project requires your group to upload:
- The EXCEL workbook showing your working for the construction of the control charts and the process capability evaluation
- The project report in either MS Word or PDF formats
Be reminded, while the upload links are located on the Homepage of the Course Website; your group-specific data and instruction are located on your group’s sub-web space. You need to do your project using your group’s data.
For the EXCEL workbook, use the EXCEL template (the Sample) to guide your workbook structure. Your workbook structure has to be the same as the Sample.
Regarding the project report, use the provided report template printed on the Control Chart Report upload link page to complete your report. Do not write your report in other format.
Control Charts
- Explain X̅ – Chart and R – Chart
- Application of X̅ – Chart and R – Chart, examples, why is the current assignment an appropriate application?
- For the Initial Data used for determining the locations of the three lines:
Number of Samples: |
Number of Instances per Sample: |
- For the subsequent production data:
Number of Samples: |
Number of Instances per Sample: |
- In mathematical formulas, explain how you determine the locations for the centerline, upper control limit (UCL), and lower control limit (LCL) for the X̅ – Chart, and R – Chart (make reference of the three lines to the figure of the control charts).
(Show as an insert figure the two charts with the three lines on each but without the subsequent production data. Your figure should have a caption at the bottom – use the ‘insert caption’ function provided by Word)
- Comments on the subsequent production data on the two charts. Do the charts show anything about the production that the management needs to investigate (make reference of the three lines to the figure of the control charts)?
(Show as an insert figure the two charts with the three lines on each WITH the subsequent production data. Your figure should have a caption at the bottom – use the ‘insert caption’ function provided by Word)
Process Capability
- Explain the concept of process capability.
- Fill in the following tables with appropriate units:
Expected Mean |
Actual Mean |
Upper Tolerance Limit |
Lower Tolerance Limit |
Process Standard Deviation |
- Is the actual mean equal to the expected mean?
- There are two formulas for evaluating process capability. In this current circumstance, which of the two formula is the correct formula to use to evaluate the process capability? List the formula below.
- What is the result when you apply the correct formula in your evaluation?
- What is your conclusion? Is the manufacturing process capable of producing the needle bearings conforming to the requirements?
