Question 2=

Describe how organizations can overcome the geographic, cultural, and language challenges when seeking potential overseas suppliers. Give specific examples.

With the United States being so diverse with a melting pot of different cultural people, consulting with a workforce agency who supply able body workers should be a resource.

Decide how organizations can instill the same ethical standards in overseas suppliers, especially Asian suppliers.

In the overseas arena, the same holds true on a diversity of people to share their talent of multi language skill. In overseas countries, I have seen that English is taught as a second language. As a resource to turn too, there are supportive organizations such as international purchasing offices who affiliate internationally.

Explain what other two (2) assessments, in addition to what is published in the Global Competitiveness Report, you might need to determine the risks and opportunities of an overseas supplier for your company or organization or institution. Expand on the value add of these two (2) assessments.

Two additional assessment features that come to mind when dealing with overseas suppliers are there “Quality” and “Standards” policy. Different countries and societies interpret this differently in large regards. What is understood to be the substandard or of poor quality may not be the same rational or understanding other countries rate.

Question 3=

  • Pick two items in the ISM principles and standards of Ethical supply management conduct and IFPSM Code of Ethics and then explain how you could do better or improve on in your current practice.
  • Explain the actions you might take when your company or your colleagues compromise ethical principles and codes based on personal experiences.
  • Describe three (3) ethical principles and code that your company practice well and how these practices help increase and grow business.

Good day,

From these principles are derived the ISM standards of supply management conduct:

                                            STANDARDS

1. PERCEIVED IMPROPRIETY Prevent the intent and appearance of unethical or compromising conduct in relationships, actions and communications.

  1. CONFLICTS OF INTEREST Ensure that any personal, business or other activity does not conflict with the lawful interests of your employer.
  2.  ISSUES OF INFLUENCE Avoid behaviors or actions that may negatively influence, or appear to influence, supply management decisions.
  3.  RESPONSIBILITIES TO YOUR EMPLOYER Uphold fiduciary and other responsibilities using reasonable care and granted authority to deliver value to your employer.
  4.  SUPPLIER AND CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS Promote positive supplier and customer relationships.
  5.   SUSTAINABILITY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Champion social responsibility and sustainability practices in supply management.
  6.   CONFIDENTIAL AND PROPRIETARY INFORMATION Protect confidential and proprietary information.
  7.  RECIPROCITY Avoid improper reciprocal agreements.
  8.  APPLICABLE LAWS, REGULATIONS AND TRADE AGREEMENTS Know and obey the letter and spirit of laws, regulations and trade agreements applicable to supply management.
  9.  PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE Develop skills, expand knowledge and conduct business that demonstrates competence and promotes the supply management profession.

The 2 codes I would pick to improve in my current practice would be:

  1. CONFLICTS OF INTEREST Ensure that any personal, business or other activity does not conflict with the lawful interests of your employer.
  2.  ISSUES OF INFLUENCE Avoid behaviors or actions that may negatively influence, or appear to influence, supply management decisions.

These two codes are the two most misused codes in business to me. It is a very hard code to address but I would have laws against family members working together. I would change laws in the business so that employees could address these from outside agencies and not in the company. Many times in house gets others fired and create major issues for the employee. Creating a wider operating system of management would help when not one person controls a whole department.

Compromising ethical codes are a norm and it needs to be dealt with based on the code that was violated. One losing a job might have to take place for if the code that was violated effected key elements to the company. Having to set examples are a need when its a major violation. Some might be private, giving the employee a chance to do right. Again I believe it would have to be a choice base on the code that was compromised.

The three ethical codes that my company practice are:

1.   RESPONSIBILITIES TO YOUR EMPLOYER Uphold fiduciary and other responsibilities using reasonable care and granted authority to deliver value to your employer.

2.  CONFIDENTIAL AND PROPRIETARY INFORMATION Protect confidential and proprietary information.

  1. RECIPROCITY Avoid improper reciprocal agreements.

These three help increase the business from trust of the employees. When an employee trust a company they give 100 of the time and it secures them of the place they are building in the company. These three are directly link to giving the employee the idea that they are taken into consideration as a valuable part of the company.

Question 4=

Pick two items in the ISM principles and standards of Ethical supply management conduct and IFPSM Code of Ethics and then explain how you could do better or improve on in your current practice.

The two I choose are:

Acquire and maintain professional competence.

This is important because the better in tune your knowledge and skills are, the more effective of a leader customers and subordinates will want to look up to and do business with

Encourage support for small, disadvantage and minority owned businesses.

Small minority owned businesses are the cornerstone of the private sector. They employ personnel which in turn stimulates growth in our economy. Supporting the small disadvantage minority businesses supports local community stability.

Explain the actions you might take when your company or your colleagues compromise ethical principles and codes based on personal experiences.

For extreme circumstances, one option is to report irregularities to the ethics hotline. When the issue or circumstance puts people at risk with severe repercussions, it would be in the best interest to report and have the matter investigated. If the issue can be resolved with a side bar or one on one with the individual, then I would suggest this path as to not resolving the matter at its lowest level.

Describe three (3) ethical principles and code that your company practice well and how these practices help increase and grow business.

Three ethical principles practiced:

Zero tolerance for discrimination and or harassment.

This is to protect the company against lawsuits internally and externally, shedding the company in bad light.

Keep accurate and truthful business, contract and financial records.

Accurate records are needed to be maintained for accountability and possible audits by the government.

Do not discuss business proprietary information with competitors.

Keeping the efficient operations and inner workings of the company safe from exposure gives the advantage needed for future work and the edge in re-newed contracts.
