Australian National University Audience Influence on Pop Culture Paper

Audiences are active participants in, not just passive recipients of, pop culture.  Choose an example that you have some familiarity with and discuss the ways that the audience participated in the creation or transformation of that specific piece of popular culture. Your analysis should be about real activities on the part of audiences, not just the ways that consumer preferences shape popular culture.  Some examples of things you might analyze:  the ways that fans contribute to the energy and entertainment at sporting events; the ways that audiences participate at screenings of the Rocky Horror Picture Show or at events such as Comic-con; chat groups about particular TV shows that fans use to interpret characters or story lines.  These are just some ideas to get you started; you can use one of these or choose something of interest to you. The key is to analyze what audiences do to create/alter some aspect of popular culture.  What can you conclude about the role of audiences?
