For this assignment you’ll engage in a discussion post where you’ll first comment about your impression of the text or any of the themes, structure, or contents therein. After that, you’ll comment on 2 (TWO) other people’s posts/comments. You do not have to agree with each other, but we must keep a respectful tone. We can clash while still honoring the existence and experiences of others.
You can approach this post from any angle but here are some thoughts to think about that might get you started:
- How do we feel about this dude–a white man–so casually breaking the law? Do we care? Did we find that odd or unusual? Why make something like this illegal in the first place?
- How do we feel about the narrator contemplating all the murders that have occurred in the park while he’s visiting those locations? He even considers seeking out these locations like some kind of strange tour. What’s up with that?
- At the bottom of page 650 the narrator encounters a couple on the path. The text reads “Your first thought is: nutcase?” Please note, he didn’t use an “I” statement there. Also, he is so quick to judge the intent of the couple that he’s actually very surprised to find they are terrified of his own presence. More than that he delighted in the distress his presence had.
