I’m working on a writing exercise and need a reference to help me understand better.

Your Task: This project has two components: (1) A substantial revision of one of the first two essays as you convert it into a Spark Page, and (2) A reflection Spark Page (750 words) that examines what you have learned about your writing, argumentation and research skills, composing materials using Adobe Creative Cloud applications, and the ability to adapt to various audiences with evidence from your revised essay and others to support your claims. Both components will be submitted together on or before April 28, but for planning purposes, we will go over the revision essay in module 12-13 and the reflection in module 14.

Explanation of the Task

Throughout this course, we have written drafts in stages and revised and expanded them each step along the way. Revision is essential for most writers, and many of us do not really express what we are trying to say in enough depth until we begin revising. Your purpose, in this assignment, is to choose any one of the first two essays that you have written this semester, and substantially revise it by recreating it as a Spark Page. Your grade for the assignment is based on how thoroughly the original, graded draft has been revised.

“Substantive” revision means looking at what you have written with fresh eyes, taking the time to expand ideas, reorganize sections of your essay, develop stronger conclusions, rewrite sections of your essay, etc. This is different than “Editing,” which is looking for grammatical mistakes, typos, etc. In order to revise, you should choose an essay that you feel you can develop further. What grade you got on the essay, is not a criteria for choosing to revise it. The purpose of revision is to demonstrate your ability as a critical reader who can now critically read his/her/their own writing and make changes by adding or replacing content, changing the sequence of paragraphs or the structure of paragraphs, rewording or modifying the thesis, developing the introduction/conclusion, citing correctly or adding more sources, and editing.

One way to approach revision is to change the medium in which you are revising. For instance, you can choose to revise your essays 1 or 2 by converting them into an Adobe Spark Page. The requirements of the original assignment will remain the same, so you will still be producing roughly 3 pages of writing, but by presenting it in a different form, you will be forced to change the organization and content. You already have experience with Adobe Spark, so working in this medium would be beneficial to your revision process.

For the revision component of this assignment, you will need to:

1. Make a revision plan in which you: sum up all the feedback that you have received on your previous drafts from your peers, your own self-assessment, UWC tutor, or Professor; list all the areas that you think you will be able to revise and examine why such revision will be useful; explain how such revision will take place.
2. Read through your graded draftand highlight all areas that you are going to revise; this will make it easier for me to see what is being revised.
3. Substantially revise the essay, expanding their ideas, organizing them more cohesively, and developing their analyses in more depth.
4. Critically edit each essay—correcting errors, developing the rhetorical style of sentences, correcting citations.
5. Submit the revised draft by highlighting all the areas where you have made changes. You can make notes on your final draft, highlight or simply explain separately in the comments box.
