AU Social Work Group Formation and Cohesion Discussion

Group cohesion is essential for optimal group functioning, helping group members to meet their socio-emotional needs while at the same time helping the group to accomplish its goals. A high level of group cohesion can lead to better outcomes because people become more invested in the group experience.

Choose a film that features a group in its plot, such as The Breakfast Club, Dead Poets Society, Lord of the Flies, or Animal Farm, or another appropriate film.

  1. Provide a link to the short film clip.
  2. Analyze the development of the group over time using one of the models described in Table 3-3. (In Textbook).
  3. Focus specifically on the development of social integration and influence dynamics.
  4. How did norms, roles, status hierarchies, and power develop and evolve in the group?
  5. How did this affect the overall culture of the group?
