Individual Paper (topic:White fragility and its impact in the workplace )
- Since one of the goals of the course is for you to be able to take the frameworks and theories we discuss to understand the people, groups, and organizations that compose your world, you will complete a short paper in which you demonstrate your ability to do just that.
- Imagine you are asked to assume the role of an HR manager who is asked to give a presentation and proposal at an upcoming Society for Human Resource Management SHRM conference (https://annual.shrm.org/). Your task is to start with the topic you chose, and then analyze and relate it to current organizational challenges that workers and employers need to confront head on. Your research should inform your advice and recommendations to other HR managers struggling to impact employee’s attitudes and behaviors in measurable ways.
- Creativity and novelty are important to carrying this out successfully and so is outside research. Please focus on employees’ attitudes and behaviors. I strongly recommend that you choose topics on the team sign-up sheet; however, if you choose a different topic, you must get approval from me before the second week of class. Good sources for ideas may be newspapers, magazines, current events, reality TV, etc. You are welcome to frame your analysis objectively or to develop a thesis and defend it.
