Digital Investigation/Security Certification
My career plans include acquiring certifications as a Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) and Certified Authorization Professional (CAP). The reason I chose these certifications is because I plan to attain a position as an Information Security Analyst or as a Network or Computer Systems Administrator or some other related field. These are the best certifications to supplement my education and support career plans. Both certifications are ideal for validating my knowledge in information security practices. The qualifications for certification as a Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) are as follows:
- Candidates must have a minimum of one year of cumulative work experience in one or more of the seven domains of the SSCP Common Body of Knowledge (CBK).
- A one-year experience waiver will be granted for a candidate who received a degree (bachelors or masters) in a cybersecurity program ((ISC)² Information Security Certifications, 2021).
The qualifications for certification as a Certified Authorization Professional (CAP) are listed below.
- Candidates must have a minimum of two years cumulative, paid, full-time work experience in one or more of the seven domains of the CAP Common Body of Knowledge (CBK) ((ISC)² Information Security Certifications, 2021).
The Importance of These Certifications to the Field of Computer Forensics
These certifications are importance to the field of computer forensics because they
verify that those who possess these credentials have knowledge of monitoring and analysis which include determining system implementation and access in accordance with IT criteria and compliance governance. These are key factors for Collecting information for identification of, and response to, security breaches or other cybersecurity incidents. It also validates that a person has knowledge of Risk, Response and Recovery procedures, Security Assessment Activities, and Incident Handling Analysis, which are critical to identifying, assessing, and controlling damages or losses related to adverse cybersecurity events (Why Become an SSCP, n.d.). I would personally seek to obtain these certifications because I believe it would create more career opportunities for me. They would also make me more marketable and increase my credibility.
Certification Benefits
I do not currently have any IT certifications. The first certification I plan to obtain is the SSCP certification because it can lead to career growth, higher pay, promotions, management and project leadership roles, and better jobs opportunities. These certifications would benefit me in my current occupation because I am a police office, and it would give me a chance to obtain a position up in the ranks or even become a member of a CSI team. These IT certifications would create more opportunities for me to advance in my career field. I do not feel that there are any digital investigation or security certifications that would not be beneficial to an employee’s career. IT certifications is a way for an employee to verify that they have the knowledge, skills, and capabilities to monitor, manage, maintain, and audit information systems ((ISC)² Information Security Certifications, 2021).
