For this Extra Credit Assignment you will be given the chance to apply Sociological Perspectives to your own points of view. This assignment will be worth up to 10 points.
As we enter the 4th Unit in this course you have learned about quite a lot of different aspects of the world around you, and how they all interact with the field of Sociology. Using the Three Paradigms of Sociology (Functionalism, Conflict Theory and Symbolic Interactionalism) you will write a paper about one of the topics discussed up to this point. This means you can choose any topics from Unit 1 – 3. I encourage creative thought, and thinking outside the box. This is your paper, and your point of view.
The paper will be a minimum of 500 words, and please make sure to approach this topic as if you were a theorist and writing from the perspective of your choice. As college students I expect you to write as such, and if you use citations to incorporate proper sources. You are not required to use sources, so it is your choice to do so. Use of Quotes is allowed, but highly discouraged as I want to know your perspectives and not someone else’s words.
I look forward to seeing submissions from you all as many of you have wonderful points of view that leave me humbled on a regular basis. Sociology is about taking the concepts we learn about, and applying them to real world situations and understanding how the world works, in connection to theory and concept.
