Additional Helpful Information:
Critical data for Question 1 is the Correlation Coefficient or
Pearson r. It varies between -1 and 1, where -1 is perfect negative
correlation and 1 perfect positive correlation. No correlation = 0. This
coefficient can be significant at 0.05 (good significance) or 0.01
(very good significance).
Critical data for Question 1 and 2 is the Coefficient of Determination R-Square or R2
, which is exactly the square of Pearson’s. It can be interpreted as
the proportion of the variance of dependent variable that is explained
by the independent variable. The minimum is 0 (no determination of
dependent variable) and maximum 1 (perfect determination of dependent
variable). This coefficient can be significant at 0.05 (good
significance) or 0.01 (very good significance).
In SPSS, when you see a significance of .000 it means that is
better than 0.01 but too long to calculate. In the interpretation, you
would say “significance better than 0.01”.
