For thisassignment,youarerequireddevelopandproposea new ventureideaforyourownbusiness ora new
orinnovativeidearelevanttoyourcurrentindustryresultingina solutiontoa problem.Sinceyouhaveonly a
limitedamountoftimetoworkonyourideaproposal, youare notexpectedtocompletea tested,ready-for-
investmentproposalbutrathera well-thought-outidea. This assignmentincludestwoparts:a proposaland
pitchpresentation.
Part One: OpportunityProposalReport
For yourreport, youwillneedtoidentifya problem,a setofstakeholders whocould/shoulddosomething,and
a potentialpathway toimplementation. Also,youareexpectedtousedesignthinkingprocess, leanstartup
theoryandbusiness model canvastoguideyourproposal. For yourproposalreport,youshouldincludethe
followingsections:
a. Explain theproblemyouneedtosolveandwhy itis a problem.
2. ProductorServiceAnalysis
a. Explain howyouknow thisisa problem.
b. Identify thecustomers(peoplewhoareaffectedby theproblem)
c. Identify everyoneinthedistributionchain
3. Stakeholders- Identifyyourstakeholders. Everyentrepreneurial initiativeneeds anowneror
champion. Thismightbeyourself (aloneorwithothers involvedinthestartup),yourcompany(ideally
identify a role thatwouldowntheinitiative)oranothercompany thatiswell-placedtoact onthe
opportunity.
4. DesignThinkingProcess- Describethestages ofyourdesignthinkingprocess. Youshouldfocus
onlyonthefirst threestages: empathise,design,and ideate.
5. Descriptionof Solution- Describethepotential solution.
a. Explain why youhavechosenyoursolution.
b. Explain howit solvesthecompany’s viability, competition,capability, etc.
6. Explainthevalueproposition – What valuedoyouprovideyourcustomer?
a. Eachcustomershouldhavea separatevalueproposition.
7. DraftBusinessModel– Completea BusinessModel Canvas.
8. Validation- Whatevidencehaveyoufoundtoprovidesupportforyourproposedsolution,value
proposition,andbusiness model? Includethejustificationforyourproposalby includingresearchand
any insights.
9. Testing- Explain whatthemost importantassumptionsareyouhavemadeandhowyoucould testit
as quickly andinexpensivelyas possible(minimal viableproduct).
10. FinancialModel– Explain how yourideaorbusiness will makemoney. Trytoquantify anyrevenues
andcosts inyourBusiness Model Canvas.
11. ChallengesandStrategies– Identify any challengesyouanticipate andthestrategies youwill utilise
tomanageorovercomethechallenges.

Ifyouhaveconductedallyourresearchandconcludedyourpotentialsolutionis notviable,thisoutcomeis
okay. Youshouldstatethatatthispointyouchoseto‘pivot’toa differentbusiness modelandexplainwhy.
Youdo nothavetostartalloveragainbutinsteadexplaintheflaws youdiscoveredinyouroriginal idea. Then
identify alternativebusinessmodelsthatyouwouldexplorenext. Forexample,youmay suggesta different
customersegment,a differentpricingmechanism(e.g.subscriptionversussale)analliancewithanother
company,etc. Finally, think aboutthisassignmentusingthe“What,SoWhat,andNowWhat”framework.
