Assessment 1: Part 1 – Peer Assessed Project Proposal
The Peer Assessed Project Proposal consist of two stages:
Writing and submitting your project proposal (Week 3)
Assessing and reviewing your peer’s proposal (Week 4)
The two combined will support your own project development, as well as your academic skills in writing critical and constructive review. Your feedback for this formative assessment will not affect your final grade.
Overview
Your first assessment is to individually write a 500-word research outline. This should engage with at least one of the approaches to media ethics explored in Weeks 1 and 2. You should relate your chosen framework(s) to preliminary ideas around ethical and regulatory issues in digital media, engaging with one of the topics covered thus far in the course, or choose one of your own (for example, copyright, GDPR, surveillance, etc.). You may also browse topics in future weeks for inspiration.
. Please do that by posting your project proposal in assessment 1 discussion forum Links to an external site., using the ‘Write a reply’ box. For more information please see How do I reply to a discussion as a student? (Links to an external site.)
Purpose
The purpose of this assessment is to help you learn to critically synthesise issues in digital media ethics. It will also help you develop ideas for your final essay that you will submit in Week 8.
Details
For this assessment you will be required to:
Engage with, and demonstrate understanding of, at least one of the approaches to media ethics or epistemological issues explored in Weeks 1 and 2
Relate your frameworks to one relevant case study of your choosing
Use Harvard referencing
Peer Assessment task (Week 4)
Please review the proposals of those in your Team Task group – same group you’ve self enrolled in for the team tasks. To learn more about Groups in Canvas, including how to see your groups and how to collaborate with your peers using your Canvas group page, please watch this Groups Overview video.
By Friday of Week 4 at 16:00 UK time you should submit your review to the assessment 1 discussion board Links to an external site.. You can provide comments directly in the ‘Write a reply’ box.
How to peer assess your peers’ proposal:
Paraphrase what the project is about – e.g. what ethics/epistemological frameworks does it engage with? How do these relate to the chosen case study? Is it a suitable framework for the case study?
What further research do you think needs to be carried out in order for this project to be realised?
Remember to be kind and constructive in your reviews.
