At work I am required to maintain an OSHA outreach trainer authorization and every four years we have to take refresher training. The need it meets is the ability to teach OSHA 10 and 30 hour for construction courses for our employees. It motivates me to be in a room with my peers and I think there is a little bit of competition in the room knowing that most of the people in the room are also safety professionals. There have been several cases where our instructor was not prepared or didn’t seem to be engaged in the topics that was a real non-motivator for me. The training has always been effective working in a group and presenting to our peers. It gives immediate feedback that I find helpful and have learned some new ways to present from some of the people I participated with. I like the more hands on doing approach for training and I feel like it gives me a better understanding of the materials.
