Discuss your opinions regarding the use of incentives or inducements to get a higher participation rate in your survey research on the homeless. Be clear in explaining your rationale for each position that you take on the following:
- Do you feel that the use of incentives or inducements to participate in survey research is always appropriate, never appropriate, or do you feel that it may be appropriate in certain situations, like in the case of dealing with difficult populations like the homeless?
- How do different survey methodologies (for example, mail, e-mail, telephone, face-to-face) lend themselves to inducements? Do you feel that certain methodologies (mail, e-mail, telephone, face-to-face) necessitate inducements more so than others?
- Do you feel incentives affect data quality in any of these three (3) measures: number of responses, consistency of responses, and premature termination of the interview? If so, discuss what you feel the effects could be on the response rate from your homeless population. (A 2-page response is required)
