You have made it to the final sections of your paper! Now it’s time to draw conclusions from the analyses of your data, describe the implications of those results for students, teachers, and schools, and reflect upon the entire two-course process.
Directions:
Conclusions (Level 1 heading)
1. Begin with an introductory paragraph that forecasts the chapter
2. Draw a conclusion from your data. Be careful not to make claims your data cannot support. (Avoid words like PROVE, ALL, NEVER….) Let this conclusion be the topic sentence for a paragraph. Go on to support this conclusion by:
explaining the results of the relevant data analyses
connecting the results to the literature (In other words, do your results confirm what you read in the studies you reviewed, or well-respected principles of teaching and learning? Cite these studies. If you didn’t review one of the studies you are citing, be sure to add it to the References section.
3. Draw a second conclusion from your data. Let this conclusion be the topic sentence of a new paragraph. Go on to support this conclusion as you did above.
4. Continue the process above for each additional conclusion you can draw from your data.
5. Begin a new paragraph and describe how the results solve or don’t solve the action research problem.
6. Begin a new paragraph and explain the implications of these results for:
student learning,
- classroom practices;
- Devote at least one paragraph to implications on student learning and at least one paragraph to implications for classroom practices
7. Begin a new paragraph and discuss limitations of the study;
8. Begin a new paragraph and write a brief conclusion that summarizes the key points in the chapter
Final Comments (Level 1 heading)
1. Describe three or more ideas you learned from carrying out this AR project. As you reflect on this process, be sure to think all the way back to August and EDU610. Support each idea with examples and/or explanations. Devote one paragraph to each idea.
2. Describe three or more ways this AR project will influence your future teaching practices. Think beyond what you have already described in the “implications” section of the Conclusions. How will use what you have learned about AR in your future teaching practices and/or leadership position(s) at your school/district? Devote one paragraph to each influence. Support each influence with examples and explanation.
***Important Note: This section is not normally included in AR Reports. It is included here to give you opportunity to reflect upon what you have learned. Therefore, in this section only, you may use 1st person pronouns (e.g., I, We, My…).
