After readings Modules 37-41 and 55-59, you learned about Cognition, Intelligence, and Health Psychology. “Psychological and social processes often play a role in influencing the progress and outcome of “biological” diseases” (Coon, Mitterer, & Martini, 2018). Using the content from the required readings:
- Review the research on how stress and emotions can alter a person’s cognitive abilities. What area the effects on the brain and how might this affect a person’s life overall?
- Describe the relationship between “cognition” and “stress appraisals”. How are our thoughts connected to how we experience stress?
- Reflect on what you learned about Cognition, Intelligence and Health Psychology and select three of the strategies targeted at reducing the effects of stress that you would recommend for yourself or someone you know. What did you include? How would they help to reduce stress and improve health?
