Artt 110 drawing

This week begins the mid-term drawing assignment. By now you should be developing a check list of successful elements a drawing should contain. Such things as pos/neg shape balance and integration, the use of different size objects, the use of over lapping, foreshortening and rotated objects which provide depth and I will post in the discussion some successful examples of other drawings so you can compare your “check list” to them. I can’t stress enough the importance of doing several sketches. Trying to solve a visual problem does not happen quickly. It takes familiarity and study. More sketches means a better finished drawing. The secrets of a successful drawing are never apparent; they have to be found. You have to evaluate what you see and apply those ideas we have learned each week. Sketches are the key and it’s important to use them. They allow you to explore different arrangements and different perspectives.

Explore different arrangements, different positions of the objects and maybe even different objects. Sometimes the slightest change makes all the difference, but it takes detective work.
