FINAL PAPER
Your final paper—on a topic of your choice selected in consultation with me—should include the following six (6) components:
1. An introduction with a clear thesis statement.
NB: While “change” and “difference” across time may be facts that are important to note, they do not constitute a thesis in an of themselves.
2. In the body of the paper, an argument that proves your thesis organized around visual evidence.
3. A conclusion that brings the threads of your argument together for your reader. 4. Properly formatted footnotes (Chicago or MLA style).
5. Images of each object with artist (if applicable), title, date, medium, and accession number, numbered and attached separately at the end of the document.
6. A bibliography with a minimum of five (5) scholarly, peer-reviewed books or journal
articles. If you’re having trouble finding sources, please let me know as soon as
possible.
An excellent paper (aka an “A” paper) will:
§ Articulate a thoughtful argument that goes beyond ideas presented in class and in the textbook. § Demonstrate thorough research that takes full advantage of accessible online resources.
§ Be written clearly and free of grammatical, spelling, and typographical errors. Please proofread! § Be 7-8 pages long, double-spaced, with 1” margins and 12-point font.
