I will be evaluating your final work based on how well you demonstrate the following so be sure to read through the lesson for this assignment to help you do this:
- Your title. (3pts)
- The way you introduce your topic and issues in the introductory paragraph. (4pts)
- The reasoned presentation of issues in the body of your essay (where most of your source material will be incorporated). (9pts)
- The completeness of your summary paragraph. (4pts)
- The unique perspective of your argument. (5pts)
- How well you followed MLA style. (3pts)
Notice that there are extra points factored into this assignment assessment. I’m using my judgement to assess these. I’ve given you a lot of personalized feedback on previous assignments, so you know I’m being very thoughtful about your work and generous with points. However, this is the last assignment of the term and my expectations are higher than at the beginning. I’ve been working to break you out of an automatic way of writing for an English course, and I expect to see you value your unique perspectives and want you to bring your insight and experience to your writing.
I would expect your final piece of writing to be anywhere from 4-pages plus the works cited page. If you think you need more than that, reconsider how you can revise your writing and be sure to eliminate excessive wording. If you find you can do this in fewer than 5 pages, you may need to think more about the issues and topic and your argument to be sure to present a deeply thoughtful and engaging piece of writing.
