Part one Professional Associations in Psychology
For this assignment, you will examine the various associations in psychology as they relate to your interests in psychology. For example, if you are interested in Forensic Psychology you would research professional organizations or associations associated with Forensic Psychology.
- For this assignment, you will choose two professional organizations.
- Find two recent scholarly journal articles (within the last 2–3 years) related to the two fields of psychology for the professional organizations you have chosen.
- Write a 1-2 page report on the professional organizations integrating information from the journal articles.
By now you should have completed your interview with someone from your field of interest. The interview format should be based on the following types of questions:
- Demographic questions: This is common in interviews and questionnaires. Typically, demographic questions include questions regarding age, gender, race or ethnicity, marital status, education level, career title (job), and types of jobs held. Do not include questions that identify an individual, that is, questions regarding name, address, and relationship with you.
- Interview questions: Personal interview questions differ from a questionnaire or survey in that they are much less structured. They are open-ended and lead to a narrative. For the interview you will need to ask four to five questions related to the profession. However, be prepared to ask follow-up questions to further probe into the topic area, if needed. The types of questions should follow these general themes:
- Skills and experience—This theme covers questions related to the individual’s education and experience.
- Types of work—This theme covers questions related to the individual’s typical work day.
- Professional development—This theme covers questions related to the types of continued education/training needed after formal education (college).
- Future prospects—This theme covers questions related to the state of the profession and potential career prospects.
When conducting the interview follow this guide:
- First, locate individuals whom you plan to interview. Call him/her or send an e-mail to make an appointment. Introduce yourself as a student of South University. Explain that you need to interview him or her as part of a class project
- Conduct a one-on-one interview. The interview can be completed via a phone interview if you are not able to find someone in your area.
- Take detailed notes.
- Besides answers to the questions, note other relevant information shared.
What is due for this assignment is a summary report on the interview detailing the following information:
- Interview questions asked
- Demographic information
- Summary of responses to questions
Part five
Position Paper
Over the past five weeks you have examined several areas of psychology in relation to the areas/fields of psychology that you are most interested in. As you enter the final week of the course and potentially the end of your bachelor program you may think “what have I learned?”, not just for this course but for the program as a whole. Often, what is created toward the end of an academic program is a portfolio of work that demonstrates your academic achievements and knowledge. This assignment will take a part of that idea but within a position paper. A position paper is your synthesis of ideas and thoughts regarding psychology supported by relevant sources. The basic purpose of the paper is to answer this question:
What have I learned and how am I going to use what I learned?
The paper should adhere to the following guidelines:
- The length of the paper should be 7-10 pages, Time New Roman double-spaced pages (not including the title and reference pages).
- For the main sections it should have a:
- Title page
- Introduction
- Literature review
- Conclusion
- Reference page(s)
- The paper must use proper APA style for citing sources and references.
- Introduction: This should be 1–2 pages in length. The introduction provides a brief overview of what will be covered and the purpose of the paper.
- Literature review: The literature review is outside information that supports your conclusions in the next section. For this assignment you could use the articles that you had found in previous week’s assignments. There should be a minimum of 6–8 journal articles that support your writing. The literature review can be found under week 4 project to insert in paper (it is already done)
- Conclusions: The conclusion is the section that pulls it all together. It provides the reader with a better understanding of the information you presented in the earlier section as well as your views regarding the original question/purpose of the paper.
