Scientific Method

The scientific method is useful in problem solving and
decision-making in a wide variety of fields. In this assignment, is to
demonstrate how to use the scientific method to make decisions and solve
problems in the field of study or everyday life.

Identify a specific problem often faced in the field of study or
everyday life. Research the problem and assess the data / research. Examples of
such

Determining
the most cost-efficient transportation / route for the commute.

Write a three to five (3-5) page paper in which the items below
are covered:

  1. Explain
    the Scientific Method and describe the overall manner in which to apply the
    Method in the field of study or everyday life.
  2. Propose
    one (1) testable hypothesis to explain / solve the problem selected. State
    the expected outcomes of the actions and include criteria for determining
    whether or not these actions would succeed. Note: The hypothesis
    should be stated very precisely.
  3. Describe
    the main actions that is intended to be put into place to test the
    hypothesis proposed in Question 2. Describe the way in which the success
    of the program would be evaluated. Include the results that would be deemed
    as a success and the results that would be considered a failure.
  4. Discuss
    the wisdom behind the strategy used to test the hypothesis from Question
    3, and describe the additional steps to be taken, depending on the results
    of your test. Note: These additional steps might be to revise the
    original hypothesis (if the results were unsatisfactory) or to propose new
    hypotheses. The goal is to continuously improve the understanding of the
    factors influencing the outcomes, to be able to achieve greater results
    over time.
  5. Use at
    least two (2) quality resources / references in this assignment. Note:
    Wikipedia and personal blogs do not qualify as quality resources.

The assignment report must follow these formatting requirements:

Be typed, double spaced, using Arial font
(size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow
APA format. Check with the professor or LRC manager for any additional
instructions on APA format.

Include a cover page containing the title of
the assignment, the assignment number, the student’s name, the professor’s
name, Strayer University, Online Campus, Course number (SCI 110.021VA016-1178-001),
the course title, and the date of submitted. The page header is to have the
ASG#1, Scientific Method or paper title and the student’s initials (YOI) on the
left side of the page and the page number of the number of pages on the right
side of the page. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the
required assignment paper length of 3 to 5 pages.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this
assignment are:

Apply concepts in physical sciences to
evaluate current trends and issues in the modern world.

Use technology and information resources to
research issues in physical sciences.

Write clearly and concisely about physical
sciences using proper English and writing mechanics.

Pronouns are not to be used in the
composition of these written assignments. Pronoun usage is subject to a ten
point grade reduction for each use. Pronouns – I, me, we, us, you, she, her,
he, him, it, they, them, my, mine, their, our, your, myself, yourself,

their self, etc.

Substitution of a phrase in place of a pronoun, i.e., the student’s name, the writer,

the author, etc. is not acceptable
