asic Requirements of Assignments

This week, Assignment 3.2 is due. There are three essay assignments in ENG115. Assignments 1, 2, and 3. Assignment 1 has only one draft. Assignments 2 and 3 both have two drafts (2.1, 2.2, 3.1, and 3.2). Assignments 2.1 and 3.1 are first drafts (don’t think of them as “rough” drafts). Assignments 2.2 and 3.2 are second/final drafts.

Assignment 1 is a basic response essay, and most perform well on it. Assignments 2 and 3 require research (at least three credible sources to be included), and require more time to develop. Students are successful on Assignment 2 and 3 if they use the APA handbook and watch all instructional videos in Instructor Insights each week.

In order to be eligible for grading, essays must include all basic requirements (that is, they must be complete drafts). See the specific assignment details for further requirements.

Ignore only the note in assignment details that says websites do not qualify as academic resources. You shouldn’t use Wikipedia, but you are free to use any websites that are credible and reliable for academic research.

For Assignment 1, a complete draft includes:

~a title page (the first page of the essay document, not a separate attachment)

~a 5-part essay double-spaced and 1 1/2 to 2 pages in length (which includes an introduction, at least three body sections, and a conclusion)

*Note that only the essay content (not the title page) counts toward the page requirement noted in the assignment directions).

In Assignments 2 and 3, complete drafts include:

~everything that was required in Assignment 1, except the essay length should be 3-4 pages

~a reference list and in-text citations

*Again, only the essay content, not the title page nor reference list, will count toward the length requirement.

All essays must be submitted in a file type readable by Microsoft Word. Examples are file types that end with .docx, .doc, .rtf, and .odt. Please do not submit work in a PDF because I will not be able to return your feedback with comments inserted into your essay. If you do not have Word (Office) and buying it isn’t economically feasible, you can submit attachments from a free alternative, Open Office (.odt).

Microsoft Office free trial download: https://products.office.com/en-us/try

Open Office download: https://www.openoffice.org/

Any essays submitted incomplete will not be graded, and late penalties will be assessed until a complete essay is submitted (see late policy review in Week 1’s Instructor Insights–there is a 14 day limit on this, after which work is not acceptable for grading).

Now, please turn to the specifics noted in your assignment directions for what exactly you need to compose in your essay. Don’t forget to view instructional videos in Instructor Insights!!
