Answering Questions about Puberty (20 points)
Before beginning this assignment make sure you have read pages 33 to 55 in the text and have listened to Lecturettes M2 – 1 and M2 – 2.
Dear Anne (Alex):
This assignment will involve two components. First, you will be writing 3 questions you believe a teen in early adolescence might have about puberty and the growth spurt. Put these questions in the form of a letter to an advice columnist of a magazine targeted for teens. Put all three questions in the same letter. Here is an example:
|
Dear Annie, I am 11 years old and I have already started my period. I am so embarrassed because I am so much bigger and heavier than all of the girls in my fifth-grade class. Right now I feel as if I will keep on growing and growing. When will this stop? What kind of changes can I expect in the coming year? Also, why aren’t the other girls in my class going through the same changes? Signed, All Alone. |
Second, based on what you learned from the course readings and lecturettes you will answer each of three questions you wrote from a teen, responding as the advice columnist. Your answers should be done in language appropriate for teens, at the same time of conveying the important information from the research in the area.
|
Dear All Alone, First off, you are not alone! Signed, Anne. |
Include both the youth’s questions and your responses in the same paper.
