It Happened to Me
Danny
Being in college, I’m a part of a culture that’s very different from the culture where I grew up. In college, people value talking about ideas, learning new information, and working toward becoming more “educated.” When I go home, however, I have to remember that not everyone in my family, and not all of my friends, went to college. They don’t understand a lot of the jargon I use, and they don’t know about the things I’ve studied. I try to be mindful of this when I visit; I don’t want to sound condescending. I also try to remember that their opinions are equally valid and that I need to listen as attentively to them as I do to my college friends
