MAYA ANGELOU-I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS

1) Review Ch. V, SHOW AND TELL, and discuss some of the passages in Maya Angelou’s story in which she employs ‘showing.’ Which passages employ concrete details and imagery that you can ‘see’ clearly, and why? Be specific.

ESMERALDA SANTIAGO-WHEN I WAS PUERTO RICAN:

2) The same question for Esmeralda Santiago: Which passages does she bring to life for you through his use of imagery and concrete detail? Which passages can you ‘see’? Be specific.

3) PROMPT:

This one sounds easy, but it is harder than you may think, so take your time:

Write a passage in which you use concrete detail and imagery to describe something. It can be anything. It can be an object, a painting, a location, a person, anything at all. But the trick is to paint a picture with words so that your reader can see, hear, touch, taste, smell whatever it is that you are describing.
