A Device to Assist in Reducing Leg Length Discrepancy Post Total Hip Arthroplasty

APost-operative leg length discrepancies (LLD) after total hip arthroplasty (THA) is one of the primary causes of patient dissatisfaction and at common reason for litigation against the orthopedic community. LLD is associated with back pain and sciatica, neuritis, gait disorders, general dissatisfaction, dislocation and early loosening of components that may eventually require a revision surgery. The incidence of LLD after primary THA ranges anywhere from 1 – 27 % and the discrepancy is reported to vary from 3 – 70 mm. Although there are various methods of minimizing LLD based on preoperative planning with radiological templates or intraoperative methods of measurement, the number of incidences is high enough to warrant investigation of other novel efficient techniques/devices. The aim of this project is to design a device to efficiently evaluate limb lengths before surgery to ensure minimal leg length discrepancy post-surgery. The team will be involved in concept generation, developing testing methodologies to evaluate those concepts, device design and prototyping.
so my idea is to put a (Hex Socket Cap Screw) at the end of the (femoral component) I will attached a picture of it.also we can adding a remote that we can make the screw longer or shorter. I want to do a small research about my idea so we avoid theReducing Leg Length. you can also bring another idea do is in word file (small research).
