The 7 July 2005 Bombings and the 2006 Airline Bombing Plot were the first two plots that were viewed as being carried out by what have been labeled homegrown terrorist or homegrown violent extremist. What are the major challenges with dealing with this particular category of terrorists? Are there differences between those homegrown terrorists who have a direct connection with a foreign terrorist organization and those acting as “lone wolves,” if so what are those differences. What were some of the counterterrorism techniques discussed earlier in the semester that were utilized in the Liquid bombing plot. What are the challenges balancing the need to gather intelligence and evidence while also preventing an attack?
