AMU Definition of Terrorism Discussion

Based on this week’s readings and Lecture video, How do you define terrorism?  What are some of the key elements or characteristics that are needed for an event to be considered terrorism? Why is defining terrorism important to developing a strategy to combat it? Give specific examples of terrorism and explain how they meet your definition. Are there examples of events that are considered terrorism but would not necessarily meet your definition? Support your answer with excerpts from the required readings and at least one outside source.

You stated early in your post “Most state and non-state groups utilize force and violence to achieve certain political ends. This does not fall under terrorism.” What would be an example of a non-state group utilizing violence for political ends that would not be considered terrorism? You later stated, “Wars by different states can sometimes be considered as terrorism, however, it does not meet the above definition.” But can states engage in terrorism?
