AHIS HISTORY OF PHOTOGRAPHY – Write script for 10 minute video presentation on Elliott Erwitt

Requirements: In addition to providing basic biographical information on the artist, be sure to contextualize the photographs you select historically within the trajectory of the history of photography, personally within the artist’s oeuvre / work collectively, and then analyze the significance of the work itself. This is your chance to think outside the box, to further investigate an artist we have looked at in class or one that you find on your own. Remember to delve deeper than a surface formal analysis and craft and assert an argument. For what reasons is your photographer significant? How does he or she contribute to our understanding and appreciation of the field? Why did you select this particular image or body of work?

The three photographs that I would like an in depth analysis on are linked below. There should be 2 minutes of dialogue / written words for each photograph.

1. https://huxleyparlour.com/works/prado-museum-madrid-1995-1/

2. https://huxleyparlour.com/works/kent-england-1984/

3. https://huxleyparlour.com/works/grace-kelly-new-york-city-1956/

You can view his other work here to get an idea of his style (often comedic, satyrical):

Please, please make sure you fully answer and discuss each part of the instructions guide. Also, read the words back at a normal / slightly slower speed to make sure the words match up to the time. Please assert your argument so there is a clear direction and cohesion (not just finding facts and writing them, please dissect the information)

1. Background on Elliott Erwitt, significant events / features of his work, how he is significant for photography- around 3 minutes

2. Image 1 analysis: 1:30 – 2 min – significance of work, special techniques used, contextualize within photographic history

3. Image 2 analysis: 1:30 – 2 min – significance of work, special techniques used, contextualize within photographic history

4. Image 3 analysis: 1:30 – 2 min – significance of work, special techniques used, contextualize within photographic history

5. How his work evolved throughout his career and why I selected this artist – remainder of time

You are welcome to use some quotes from him but please make sure you put from where you found it.

Lastly, if there is a photograph that you feel you can explore very well from this artist that I did not select, please let me know and I’ll consider switching my choice.

Thank you so much and looking forward to reading your script.
