Advanced Technical Center Union Membership Great Uprising & Labor Discussions

I need support with this Business question so I can learn better.

Thread #1

In both the private and public sectors, a sharp increase in union membership coincides with the passage of protective legislation. A longstanding debate is whether increased demand for unionization causes new legislation or vice versa. Explain how causality can work in both directions. In which direction is labor law more important? Which direction do you think is more realistic?

Thread #2

The 1870s ushered in an era of intense and violent labor conflict that would continue into the 20th century. A massive depression caused severe unemployment and wage cuts, and union membership plummeted. Throughout this period, the rhetoric of protecting the individual liberty to hire or work on terms of one’s own choosing was used to justify the armed repression of unions, and the resulting story of labor history is “written in blood.”

In this discussion thread, choose two of the major events that happened in the Great Uprising of 1877  and discuss what happened in those events and what caused them to happen.

Thread #3

Explain what a “right-to-work” law is and discuss how it is harmful to unions. How do you feel about this law?
