I am trying to form a thesis statment for analytical essay that analyzises the ways in which the historical diagnosis of each reflects the gender bias of madness at the time. The two texts to analyzed will be Jane Eyre and the play Harvey since Bertha in Jane Eyre is known to be mad and in Harvey Veta. I need help forming a direct thesis statement.
You want to have a thesis that is specific, yes, so for example, if both Veta and Bertha are misdiagnosed (there is a lot already written on Bertha perhaps having syphilis, for example) and looking at the gender bias that might have led to both of their misdiagnosis (although Victorian England and 1940’s America have different biases).
