A short assignment: Reproduce an Image

Select an article that quotes images – ideally from your field, or anything you find interesting from magazine/newspaper/and etc. Select one image from this article, observe how the author contextualizes the image and how he/she comes to her argument with the image. Provide your reader with the context of the image – of the article, of the image’s own background and etc.

Close read the author’s wording. Try to figure out the assumptions/values hidden behind the surface of the text, if there is any – are they problematic/making sense/edging to you?

Based on such reading of analysis as well as your own analysis of this image, what argument would you make?

This is an exercise of using secondary source with Toulmin’s model – you may use an image that someone has already use, but you don’t just summarize the secondary source. Instead, you should come up with new ideas of this very image, as your own argument.

Of course, try to imitate the style of the article you select since you want to sound like a pro in this field – your Ethos.

Submit both the selected article and your paper here.

Format:

Your paper should be:

 3-5 pages

 double-spaced, with standard margins

 in Times New Roman font (12 point)

 proofread for typos, grammatical errors, and speling mistakes (yes, like that one)

And should include:

 MLA citations

 Works Cited page in MLA format
