Third Essay Prompt: (3-5 sources)

  Option 1:        What should we be changing?

In this essay we’re going to combine elements from prior chapters (description, process analysis, and cause and effect) to describe an everyday situation and suggest an improvement. Your essay (in 600-1250 words) should cover three basic elements:

o  The situation and what about it is problematic.

o  A solution (what step in the process should be fixed? Why would this lead to solving the problem?)

o  Benefits and Potential problems with this solution.

Remember, this isn’t necessarily an argumentative essay. Think about this as being a consultant. You’ll propose a course of action, but this may be one of several options.  

Option 2: Follow a set of instructions for a process. This could be a recipe, building instructions for furniture, or a set of instructions for a longer process (couch to 5k).

         Every set of instructions like this has its own problems with perspective. 

         What does your set of instructions assume? What conclusions could you draw about the audience or the writer based on that? 

         Propose a change for the process based on that. 

Option 3: Propose a change to a school curriculum (primary, secondary, or post-secondary) or practice. In this change you’re going to:

         Point out the issues with the current practices.

Outline the steps to be followed or altered.

         Present evidence that demonstrates the benefits of this new process
