6-2 Module Six Interview Activity: Practicing Your Skills

In previous modules, you have learned about observation, attending, open and closed questions, cultural considerations, verbal and nonverbal communication, encouraging, paraphrasing, and active listening. In this assignment, you will use these skills as you interview a friend or relative about a real or imagined decision that needs to be made—a concern, an issue, or an opportunity.

In the interview:
a. Apply course concepts as appropriate (observation, attending, open and closed questions, cultural considerations, verbal and nonverbal
communication, encouraging, paraphrasing, and active listening).
b. Identify the problem or issues that the client presents.
c. Adhere to all ethical guidelines during the interview.
d. Provide supporting documentation of the interview (the Informed Consent Form and the Client Feedback Form).
e. Alert the interviewee that you are recording the session.
