Topic: Drunk Driving

Purpose: My purpose is to inform my classmates of the dangers and potential consequences of drinking and driving.

Thesis:   Drinking and driving is something that is very dangerous, but unfortunately, all too common. This speech is intended to bring drunk driving to life and make it real and personal with the hopes that people will take it seriously and use it for future reference when they make a choice about whether to get behind the wheel after they’ve been drinking.

2. Attention Getter: In Florida, 2.1 % of people that have been drinking each day get behind the wheel and drive. Florida has one of the highest statistical rates of drunk driving accidents in the United States.
3. Reason to Listen:  Drunk driving is something that affects all of us. Most of us know someone personally who has either been a victim of or the cause of a drunk driving accident with injuries.

5. In 2012, I was the victim of a drunk driving accident that left me unable to walk and left my husband unable to work for nearly a year.

1. Drunk driving is a very common problem in our country. It’s very real and most of us have personal experience with it.

1. Drinking and driving is a serious problem in the United States.
2. 2.1 percent of people who drink each day report that they get behind the wheel and drive later.
3. Between 2003 and 2015, 8,476 people were killed in Florida by drunk driving.
4. Florida now requires ignition interlock devices for drunk drivers with a BAC of .15 or higher.
