1 Pager “AandP”

These one-pagers are designed to help you write concisely and closely. Don’t provide me with a summary of the short story – I’m looking for creativity in regard to analysis, meaning what’s the deeper meaning (theme) of the story? What can you argue that isn’t obvious? Dig as deeply as you can and show me you can interpret the text creatively! You are to read and write on: “A&P” by John UpdikeLinks to an external site.

THE BOOK IS IN THIS LINK “A&P” by John UpdikeLinks to an external site.

ONLY 5 PAGES

BEFORE YOU SUBMIT YOUR ONE-PAGER, please make sure your submission meets ALL the specified requirements. Ask yourself these questions before turning in your assignment to ensure you do meet the requirements:

  • Do I have a proper MLA 8 work cited page – you’re ONLY citing the short story provided (if you don’t have a work cited page, or a correct citation, you’ll receive a zero)? Make sure to use the Step-By-Step Guide On How To Cite Our Stories (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
  • Did I only use third person voice?
  • Is my one-pager single spaced and only one page in length?
  • Does my one-pager follow MLA 8 structure in regard to heading (name, professor’s name, class, and due date) and header (last name and page numbers)?
  • Do I have a thesis statement (argument)?
  • Do I have textual evidence (quotes) with corresponding page numbers from “A&P” only to support my thesis (argument)?
  • Is my MLA 8 header (name, professor’s name, class, and due date) single spaced?
  • Does my one-pager avoid being a summary?
  • Do I have a clever title (be creative!)?

*If you notice in the example paper, there is a Work Cited on a second page – This is OKAY! You can upload two (2) pages, but I only want one page of actual analysis – your second page is just for your Work Cited (the short story only).
